Linger by Maggie Steifvater

My Rating: 2 stars

**If you haven’t read previous books, don’t read!**

To be honest, I only got to about page 100 of this book. It failed to grab my attention from the first page. I think one of the problems was that every chapter – and sometimes in the middle of the chapter – the point of view would switch to a different character. Sometimes I couldn’t even remember what character was narrating the story. That just made it very hard to follow. Also, Steifvater never mentioned exactly how Sam was cured. It was just – BOOM – everything is better and now Grace and Same can be together. It was just odd. I would have liked someone explaining that whole cure thing at least somewhere in the beginning of the book. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with this book. It’s a shame, because the first one was pretty good.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

My Rating: 2 stars

Okay. So, I didn’t read this whole book. I got to about 120 pages into the book and completely lost interest. The only thing I kind of liked about the book was the plot. The book was about a girl who had this kind of “sixth sense” of detecting the dead. When she was younger she would find dead animals and she couldn’t rest until she buried them properly. This sense the main character, Violet, refers to as “echoes” also traces back to the killer. Apparently, Violet is going to solve this big mystery of a serial killer who keeps killing young girls. But honestly, the first chapter annoyed me. It was filled with Violets somewhat whiny complaints about how she might have feelings for her best friend, Jay. But she wasn’t sure what those feelings were and what they meant, blah, blah, blah. And whenever Violet saw Jay with other girls she got irrationally jealous. It just got really irritating after a while. I wish this book focused a td bit more on the main plot of Violet’s strange abilities rather than focusing on her obsessive love for her best friend.

To Kill a Mockingbird

My Rating: 5 stars

I don’t think I can describe how much I loved watching this movie. I got to watch it in school, and I feel like some of the kids didn’t enjoy the movie as much as I did. The movie was almost exactly like the book, but with few plot changes to keep everyone interested and the story moving along. There were even some direct quotes from the book – word-for-word quotes. I love when that happens. I feel like the girl who played Scout was perfect. She looked exactly like I pictured her in my head while reading the book. Jem was pretty close to how I imagined him too. I thought Atticus would have looked a little bit older, but I like the way he was depicted. Overall, this movie is great. I went in with high expectations, because I loved the book, and I was satisfied.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

My Rating: 5 stars

Just when Mia thinks everything is going somewhat okay, her life ends…literally. In a terrible car accident with her parents and younger brother, Mia thinks she’s okay at first; that she is the only one who survived. But then she sees the paramedics carrying her body away. As she is in a coma in the hospital, the “ghost” form of Mia must decide between two things: whether she wants to go with her deceased family or if she wants to stay.
I have heard so many good things about this book, and what everyone has said about it is correct. This book is so amazing. I absolutely adore the way it was written. The whole book isn’t just of Mia sitting in the hospital, watching what is going on. At least half of the book is flashbacks on random memories that make the story and characters just seem more real. I love the overall idea and plot of If I Stay. I believe there is a sequel and I can’t wait to read it.

The Pink Sweater

Hey everyone!
As it was said in the article from my school’s newspaper, I have been working on a short story to publish as an e-book. Well, right now, you can purchase my short story titled: “The Pink Sweater”, for $0.99 at Amazon.com
for the Amazon Kindle. Right here. The Barnes and Noble Nook version avaliable right here. If you don’t have a Kindle or a Nook, you can download a free e-reader here.

In a haze of alcohol, Scarlet James cannot remember what happened after the spontaneous party on that rainy Sunday night. All she knows is that Clare Munro died in a terrible car accident. While everyone else is mourning the loss of a great student and friend, Scarlet is dealing with an internal battle.
What would you do if you killed someone?

I would really appreciate it if all you Kindle and Nook users read my short story. I hope you enjoy it!

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

My Rating: 3 stars

Grace was attacked by wolves when she was younger. Ever since then, she had this strange attachment to this one wolf with golden eyes – the one that saved her. Ever since then, she was obsessed with the wolves that lived in the forest behind her house. After a local boy was claimed to be killed by those very wolves, and Grace finds a boy with a bullet on her back porch, Grace realizes that these wolves are not just wolves…They are werewolves. She was right all along. Once Grace gets involved with the golden-eyed werewolf named Sam, there is no going back. They either have to find a “cure” for this werewolf curse or Sam will have to be a werewolf forever.
Honestly, I’m not sure what to think about this book. There were some good parts, and then there were some not so good parts. I’m not the biggest fan of the plot or the romance element of this book, but I did enjoy the characters and the tone/way it was written. It is one of those books that you just have to keep reading because you just want to know what happens at the end. Since the ending was kind of a cliffhanger, I’m probably going to read a sequel.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

My rating: 5 stars

Scout and Jem Finch spent a good part of their childhood obsessing over their next door neighbor, Arthur “Boo” Radley, who was rumored to be slightly crazy. But now that they’re older, and more involved with and exposed to more adult topics, most of their time is centered on the trial. Their father, Atticus, is defending Tom Robinson in this trial. Tom is a black man who was accused of raping a poor, white girl, named Mayella. The whole town of Maycomb is very prejudiced and most of them are against Atticus defending Tom. In the end, it all comes down to what is right above what is easy.
It was really hard for me to summarize this book because there is so much that goes on in those pages. There is definitely more to the book than what I described above. But really, To Kill a Mockingbird is such a beautiful piece of literature. I absolutely adored every second of it and I understand why it is one of the greatest praised books. I had to read this for school, that’s why it kind of took me a long time to read it. I wish everyone at school could have enjoyed this book as much as I did. I love how the book is set in a small child’s point of view, especially because it’s about such a mature topic of racism and prejudice. Overall, I loved this book and I think you would have to be out of your mind not to.

Upcoming books!

There are so many books out there to read, sometimes I just can’t keep track. So here’s a small list of upcoming books in series that that I have been reviewing and blogging about:

• The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver: The second book, Pandemonium, will be released February 2012 and the last book, Requiem, is due out February 2013. So far away 
• Hilary Duff has been rumored to be writing a sequel to her first novel, Elixir, but I’m not really sure when it will be coming out. Hopefully soon, I can’t wait!
• Sara Shepard has written a sequel to the first book of her second mystery/suspense series, called “Never Have I Ever”. Amazon says the book will be released August 2nd, 2011.
• “Perfect”, Ellen Hopkins’ companion to her amazing book, “Impulse”, is set to come out September 13th, 2011. I am so excited for this book, you have no idea.
• And finally, Katie Alender’s second book- and sequel to Bad Girls Don’t Die- From Bad to Cursed shits shelves June 14th, 2011. SO EXCITED.

That’s about it for right now! Let me know if you have any books suggestions or you know when any new books are coming out and I’ll keep you all updated if any more books are going to be released.

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

My Rating: 5 stars

The United States is now a place where love or ‘amor deliria nervosa’ is illegal. It’s considered a disease. It’s been sixty four years since love was announced as a disease. Forty three since there has been a cure. Every person: woman, man and child, live in fear of contracting this deadly disease. The government’s brutal authority and control includes gender segregation, media censorship, beating and physically harming people who don’t cooperate and basically brainwashing everyone to believe that the cure will save you.
Lena, who is seventeen and whose family has been tainted by the disease in the past, can’t wait to get cured. She can’t wait to live without the fear of accidentally becoming infected. She can’t wait to live a happy life. Until she meets Alex. Alex is unlike everyone else in Portland. He is a resister. He isn’t cured, but he pretends to be. As soon as Lena first sees Alex, her whole world changes. Lena’s story is a heartbreaking story of love and bravery in someone who is least expected to resist.
I can’t get over how amazing this book was. I swear every bit of this story is perfection: the plot, the main idea, and the characters. They’re perfect. I love Lauren Oliver and I wish I knew how she came up with this idea. She also wrote one of my other favorite books “Before I Fall.” I really hope there are more books after Delirium.
