The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe

My Rating: 5 stars

The narrator, Montresor, opens up this story by saying that he has been insulted by his acquaintance, Fortunato. What Fortunato said to insult him was never really stated, but Montresor wants revenge. So, he begins his plan. Montresor approaches Fortunato during a carnival, and he is already quite intoxicated. Montresor bribes Fortunato with a cask of Amontillado, a wine that he has in the catacombs of his house. He knows that Fortunato would do anything to get his hands on some Amontillado. As Montresor leads Fortunato through the catacombs, the story gets more and more suspenseful. You won’t believe the ending.
This is yet another short story by Edgar Allan Poe that I absolutely love. I can’t even explain how much I like this story. Once again you can connect parts of this story to parts of Poe’s life. If you liked the Black Cat, you’ll definitely love this one!

The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe

My Rating: 5 stars

The narrator of this strange story claims he is sane, yet he is sitting in jail awaiting his death. But as the narrator looks back and tells you why he is in jail, you start to think the opposite. The narrator, who was never named, says that he has always been an animal lover. After he married, he still had a lot of pets. His favorite was a black cat named Pluto. Although he loved his pets, he began to have terrible mood swings and mistreat them. And then, one night, the narrator comes home drunk. He gets so annoyed with Pluto that he cuts out one of the cat’s eyes. From there on, you are taken on a grim journey with the narrator and his black cat.
I really, really love Edgar Allan Poe. I really do. And although his stories can be confusing at times, I really love them. The Black Cat is one of my favorite short stories by Poe. I love mystery and grimness of it all. I love how you can connect elements of his stories to his life. Overall, Edgar Allan Poe is an amazing writer, and if you like this story, you’ll like anything he’s written.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

My Rating: 4 stars

I think we all know what happens in this story. Alice enters a world in which anything is possible: Wonderland. There, she meets the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire cat, the Red Queen and much more. You follow Alice through her adventures while you’re wondering one thing: Is this place real? Is it a dream?
This book is a classic. It is nothing like what you’d imagine it to be. The moviemakers of Disney make you believe Alice in Wonderland is a totally different story. The new and recent Alice in Wonderland movie is more like this book than the animated one. If you’re ready for some adventure, go grab a copy of this book!

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 3-4 stars

**If you haven’t read previous books, don’t read!**

The revolution that Katniss Everdeen only imagined about has begun. District 12 is in ashes. District 13 is real. Peeta is captured. The Capitol is killing innocent people by the minute, and the rebels are taking action. But Katniss is still part of the puzzle, part of this rebellion that has been planned since Katniss went into the Quarter Quell. The leaders of District 13 and the rebels want her to be the Mockingjay – the face of the rebellion. To do this, she has to accept the responsibility for all the lives lost during this war. No matter the cost, Katniss must be the Mockingjay.
Personally, I love the Hunger Games books, I really do. And I was really, really excited for this book to finally come out, although I’m sad it’s over. But truthfully, Mockingjay wasn’t as good as I expected. It’s definitely not the best in the series. It felt really rushed, especially towards the end. And at the end, it just kind of ended. The end. Done. I don’t know, I feel like there could have been a lot more.
Anyway, although this book wasn’t the best it could have been, it was still pretty good!

Summer Reading

Summer is a time to kick back, relax and read some good books!
I asked my fans on my Facebook fan page what was their favorite book they read this summer.
Before I Fall, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the Pretty Little Liars books were a few of them.
The best books I read this summer:

• Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender
• Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
• Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratz-Logsted
• Willow by Julia Hoban
I didn’t read as many books as I wanted to, but I loved all of these! You all should check them out!
Leave a comment telling me your favorite book you read this summer!

Willow by Julia Hoban

My Rating: 5 stars

In March, Willow and her parents went out to dinner. Her parents had a little too many drinks, and asked Willow to drive them home. She had her learner’s permit, so it wasn’t like didn’t know how to drive. But of course, that night it poured like it would never rain again. That night, her parents didn’t make it when Willow crashed into a tree.
Willow blames herself everyday for what happened to her parents. She knows her brother hates her for what she did. She thinks she doesn’t deserve to be happy anymore. She deals with her pain by cutting herself, which soon takes over her life. Then Willow meets Guy. He’s different from everyone else. And when he finds out her secret, he tries to teach her to love herself again.
This book was definitely much better than I thought it would be. I just thought it would be a dramatic story about a teenage girl’s life of cutting herself. But Willow’s story, although fictional was full of emotion and much more than just cutting herself. This story was inspiring and amazing. I suggest you read it right away.

Vampires Suck

My Rating: 2 stars

Vampires Suck TrailerWhen I first walked into the movie theater to see Vampires Suck, I was actually excited. I was ready to see a funny comedy that bashed Twilight and the entire vampire craze.
Too bad that didn’t happen. All the hype for Vampires Suck made the movie seem so much better than it actually is. Basically the movie is a combination of Twilight and New Moon. Instead of Bella as the main character, her name is Becca. There were few parts of this movie that was actually funny. I laughed maybe two or three times, but it wasn’t like I was rolling on the floor laughing. It barely had a plotline, even if it was a spoof of the Twilight movies. Some stuff just didn’t make sense.
I don’t know. I just don’t think this movie was as great as everyone thought it was going to be. I suggest you don’t waste your money on Vampires Suck.

Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratz-Logsted

My Rating: 5 stars

Lucius and Aurora are both new students at their high school, and they both have a not-so-happy past. Lucius blew off his arms in an explosion of his own making. Aurora’s mother died of cancer. He has hooks for hands and she doesn’t know what to expect. Once Lucius meets Aurora, he realizes that there are some people out there that aren’t afraid of his hooks. He believes that she might set his soul free from its suffering. But she might just need the one thing he needs too – love.
I actually had no idea this book was a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The whole romance between Lucius and Aurora wasn’t really the main plot, so that made me like this book even more. “Crazy Beautiful” wasn’t like Beastly by Alex Flinn (another modern day Beauty and the Beast) at all. I really, really liked his book! It is one of the few teen romance novels I really like. I suggest you read this one right away!
