City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
My Rating: 5 stars
Clary’s story first beings with her meeting the mysterious trio of Shadowhunters – which are demon killers. Within a day, Clary is pulled into their world. The Shadowhunters protect her from demons, but why would demons be interested in a normal mundane (human) like her? Her mother has a secret, and it’s all in Clary’s memories. But the thing is Clary’s memories have been erased by powerful magic; she can’t remember a thing from her past. All she knows is that she used to have a normal life, and now is everything is nothing like it used to be.
The assumed most evil Shadowhunter ever, Valentine, is looking for one of the Mortal Instruments: the Mortal Cup. It is Clary and her Shadowhunter friends’ job to find it and make sure that Valentine gets nowhere near the Cup. But in the end, nothing is what is seems, and you don’t know who’s story to believe.
I really, really liked this book. I loved how the world isn’t really what is seems like. There are really vampires, werewolves, mermaids, faeries, warlocks, witches and demons running through our world. I love fantasy books like that. Overall, this book was super interesting, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
